There is something instantly recognizable about a Mina Perhonen’s creations : it could be a teacup, a brooch or a dress, there is always the same rich narrative images, the same sense of elegance, the same foundamental soundness in each item designed by Akira Minagawa, who founded the brand inspired by Scandinavia in 1995 (« Minä Perhonen » is the Finnish word for « I am the butterfly » ).
The Call store, opened in 2016 at the 5th floor of the Spiral’s building in Aoyama, Tokyo – the same building where the « exhibition minä’s work » was held in 2002 - takes its name from “Creation All,” which Mina Perhonen designer Akira Minagawa explains is derived from the concept of being “all-inclusive” – everything in Call is available to buy including the tableware in the cafe or the canoë used as a display in the store.
Minagawa has gathered together in the same space his women and kids’ collections, but also vintage ceramics, children’s toys and a textile corner that offers a range of Mina Perhonen fabrics that can be bought by the meter.
This is also the first time that Minä Perhonen has opened a store that includes a cafe and a grocery shop. You can have a lunch served on exclusive Minä Perhonen tableware or buy some miso paste made by Minagawa’s older sister.
